British Airways Staff Strike Will Effect Ex Pats Living In Cyprus

Ex pats in Cyprus are waking up to the fact that they may not be going home to the UK for Christmas after all.

For people who have made the move to Cyprus from the UK, Christmas is the most popular time to make the annual pilgrimage back to good old blighty, to remind themselves why they left .

However many people on the island have been caught out by the BA cabin crew industrial action. More than 1200 cabin crew were balloted with around 90% backing the walkout. With UNITE chiefs claiming “no BA flights would leave UK airports during the strike period” .

Mike Jacobs a Limassol resident pointed out that most people have booked well ahead for their annual trip back to England to see friends and family, in an effort to take advantage of the lower prices we have all come to expect when booking well in advance. Now we find that as of today, nobody knows if we will be travelling or not. We have been well and truly caught out.

Rival airlines that fly to and from the UK and Cyprus are set to benefit from the confusion surrounding the BA schedule as most UK bound travellers are now frantically searching for flights from Monarch and Cyprus Airways to name but two.
